02 — CHOOSING THE RIGHT OBDII ADAPTER

The Perfect Connection Starts with the Right Hardware.

Car Scanner acts as the brain; a high-quality ELM327-based OBDII hardware adapter acts as the bridge. Choosing a reliable adapter is critical for fast, uninterrupted data streams and safe ECU data-writing.

Avoid ultra-cheap clone adapters (often mislabeled "v2.1").

They feature unstable firmware that causes data lags, frequent disconnects, and can even trigger engine instability during deep reads.

Opt for Classic Bluetooth (v1.x / 2.x / 3.x) for the fastest data throughput and absolute reliability.

Choose Bluetooth LE (4.0+) or Wi-Fi. Standard pairing is not required in iOS settings — the app links to Bluetooth LE automatically.

03 — CONFIGURING YOUR FIRST CONNECTION

Plug & Power

Locate the OBDII port under the dash, beneath the steering wheel, and firmly plug in your adapter. Turn the ignition to ON or start the engine.

System Pairing

Android: pair in system Bluetooth (PIN 1234). iOS: enable Bluetooth but do not pair in settings.

Launch & Link

Open Car Scanner, go to Settings, Adapter OBDII ELM327, pick your connection type and tap your adapter from the list.

Choose Profile

Select your exact make and engine from hundreds of preloaded profiles for full sensor (PID) support, then tap Connect.

Connect over Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.

On Android, prefer Classic Bluetooth (v1.x–3.x) for the fastest, most reliable data stream. You pair the adapter in your phone’s system settings first, then point Car Scanner at it.

Plug in & power up

Find the OBD-II port under the dash near the steering column, plug the adapter in firmly, and turn the ignition ON (or start the engine).

Pair in Android settings

Open Settings → Bluetooth, turn it on, and wait for the adapter to appear — usually “OBDII”, “OBD2” or a brand name like Viecar or VLink. It is never named after your car.

Open Car Scanner → Adapter

Launch Car Scanner, open Settings (gear) → Adapter OBDII ELM327, and set Connection type to Bluetooth.
